What Will You Need?
-
1 large baking potato , unpeeled, cut into chunky chips
-
1 tsp olive oil
-
1 small gammon steak
-
1 egg
-
ketchup, to serve
Let's Start Cooking!
Step 1
Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Lightly drizzle your potatoes with the oil and then add some salt and pepper. Bake on a roasting tray for 25 mins or until it starts to turn a golden brown
Step 2 (Method 1) - Oven
-
Remove and turn the chips and push them to the edges of the tray.
-
put the gammon in the centre and cook for 7 mins more.
-
Take the tray out of the oven and turn the gammon over, then crack the egg into the corner of the tray.
-
Cook for 7 mins more until the egg is set and the gammon is cooked through. Serve with ketchup, if you like.
Step 2 (Method 2) - Boil
You may also choose to boil your gammon, this retains the metas moisture and is a far quicker method of cooking your Gammon steak. All you will need to do is put it into a seasoned pot of water and allow 20 minutes per 450g serving of gammon, any larger will require slightly longer
Step 2 (Method 3) - Frying
Depending on the thickness of your gammon steak you will want to fry it on each side, after seasoning with salt and pepper, for around 3-6 minutes depending on the size of the steak and the desired level of cooking.
Wait, That’s all it takes?
It really is as simple as that, Gammon introduces the 2 step into cooking. It is hard to believe that such a popular and traditional family meal enjoyed for generations can be so quick and easy. So how will you be enjoying your Gammon? Only having 2 steps gives you a lot of opportunity to add some optional extras such as tomatoes or mushrooms. Will you keep it simple or add your own spin?
