Ingredients:
Preparation is key - ensure before you getting started you all the ingredients ready for the recipe. The following is a complete list of the ingredients that you will need for Lamb Shanks:
- Two to three diced carrots
- Oil (olive oil preferably)
- Four chopped celery stalks
- 3-5 lamb shanks
- One diced onion
- Two to three diced potatoes (choose according to the size)
- Two crushed garlic cloves
- A cup of red wine
- Four sprigs of thyme
- A couple of dried bay leaves
- Tomato paste (1/4 cup)
- Two crushed beef-style stock cubes
- 750g tomatoes (crushed)
- One to two tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Plain flour (1/4 cup)
- Crusty bread to serve
- 1 cup of water
- Salt & pepper
Steps Involved in the making of Lamb Shanks:
Step 1
Heating olive oil gradually in a large frying pan.
Step 2
Lamb shanks, flour, salt, and pepper should all be added to a plastic bag before shaking. After being thoroughly mixed, add the lamb shanks to the frying pan and cook for about 5 minutes, or until browned all over.
Before placing the lamb shanks in the slow cooker, do this to seal them.
Step 3
Put the carrots, celery, potatoes, onion, and tomato can go into the slow cooker while the lamb shanks are heated until they become brown.
Step 4
Add crushed stock cubes, red wine, water, Worcestershire, tomato paste, and crushed garlic to a separate bowl.
Mix everything together by stirring.
Step 5
Place the cooked lamb shanks on top of the vegetables, followed by the sauce. After seasoning with salt and pepper, add bay leaves and thyme sprigs. In a slow cooker, cook on high intensity for 6 hours or on low intensity for 8 to 10 hours.
Step 6
Once you have it cooked, you may serve it with warm crusty bread.
